New York State Solar Farm (NYSSF) was chosen in May, 2015, in a competitive bidding process to install a PV solar system on the roof of the Hudson River Maritime Museum (HRMM) in Kingston, N.Y. This 40.565 kW system will enable the HRMM to offset 102% of the electricity used by the Museum. It uses state-of-the-art, high-efficiency (18.6%), high durability modules. These will be placed on the roof of the museum on ballasted mounting frames so that there will be no intrusions on the new roof being installed this summer. Having their electricity needs met by energy from the sun will also have the beneficial effect of reducing utility demand charges.
NYSSF looks forward also to collaborating with the HRMM on the very important public outreach aspect of this project. The HRMM is an important historic location and serves as the base for the Rondout Rowing Club and the Kingston High School Crew Team. It is a great venue for connecting with children and young adults. NYSSF donated a monitor for the display area and we will be working with HRMM to design an exciting video of the installation and to show the actual live output of the system. Young people are our future and solar power is the energy future; they will encounter each other positively at the Museum!
